with Teco Shinzato

A six-day, five-night BJJ retreat with Teco Shinzato at a private venue in Uluwatu. Across the week, Teco will guide us through a structured exploration of his deep half guard system, alongside plenty of rolling, yoga and recovery, incredible food and time to enjoy Bali.

What to expect

Six days built around great BJJ with Teco Shinzato, with the time and space to enjoy being in Bali.

Across the week, we’ll explore the deep half guard in greater depth, building from the foundations into entries, control, sweeps and common reactions, as well as the different possibilities that come with gi and no-gi training. The sessions will build across the retreat, giving you time to practise, ask questions and connect everything together.

You don’t need any previous experience with deep half. The training will be accessible to newer practitioners, with plenty of detail and room for more experienced grapplers to develop their existing game.

Yoga, good food and time off are all built into the schedule, creating a balance between focused training, recovery and actually having a holiday.

Teco has been training BJJ since 1993, earning his black belt under Elcio Figueiredo in 2001 before going on to win back-to-back Masters World titles in 2003 and 2004.

The deep half guard has long been an important part of Teco’s own game and something he has spent years developing and teaching. It makes him uniquely placed to take us beyond a handful of isolated techniques and help us understand how the position works as a connected system.

Teaching has been a huge part of Teco's life in BJJ. Over more than three decades on the mats, he's coached everyone from beginners to some of the sport's biggest names, including Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida and Leonardo Nogueira.

What really stands out about Teco is how much he still loves jiu-jitsu. He's fun, friendly and incredibly approachable, and his enthusiasm carries well beyond the scheduled sessions. He's always happy to talk BJJ, answer questions or help someone work through their game.

Typical Day

No two days need to look exactly the same. The schedule is designed to give us plenty of time on the mats, while leaving enough space to recover and enjoy being in Bali.

MORNING
Start the day with yoga before breakfast, getting everything moving and ready for the training ahead.

Then late morning we’ll train with Teco, before breaking for lunch and some downtime.

AFTERNOON
Time to switch off. Hang by the pool, hit the sauna and ice bath, head out and explore Uluwatu, or do absolutely nothing for a while.

LATE AFTERNOON
Back on the mats for another BJJ session, with the exact format changing throughout the week.

EVENING
Dinner together, followed by a relaxed evening and plenty of time to recover before we do it all again.

The schedule stays flexible throughout the week, giving us room to adjust the training and downtime as we go.

Salty Prana

Set in Uluwatu, Salty Prana gives us a private space to train, recover and settle into retreat life for the week.

The open-air rooftop becomes our BJJ space, while the rest of the venue is made for the hours in between. There’s a pool, sauna and ice bath, comfortable rooms, plenty of space to relax and everything we need without having to go anywhere.

It’s a beautiful place to spend your time, whether you’re on the mats, recovering between sessions or doing very little at all.

Eat Well

The food at Salty Prana was one of the unexpected highlights of our last Bali retreat, and something people were still talking about afterwards.

Breakfast and dinner are shared at the venue, with a fresh, delicious and healthy menu designed to work for everyone around the table.

Lunch is yours. Head out and explore Uluwatu, grab something from one of the many great local spots nearby, or have something delivered to the venue. This is Bali, so good food is never very far away.
