Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Professor Eduardo Novaes is a 4-time São Paulo State Champion and one of the most experienced black belts teaching in the Pacific. With over 25 years on the mats, Eduardo has built a career that spans continents — from Brazil to Europe to Asia — before settling in Fiji, where he now lives and teaches.

Eduardo earned his black belt under Master Elcio Figueiredo and went on to teach at the world-renowned Evolve MMA in Singapore, working alongside and training with some of the sport’s elite, including Teco Shinzato, Alex Silva, Leandro “Brodinho” Issa, and Michelle Nicolini.

Known for his technical precision, calm presence, and emphasis on intelligent Jiu-Jitsu, Eduardo’s teaching blends old-school fundamentals with modern movement and strategy. His approach helps practitioners refine timing, control, and flow — building efficiency and longevity on the mat.

At this retreat, Eduardo brings his world-class knowledge and the laid-back rhythm of island life together — offering a rare opportunity to train in paradise under one of the region’s most respected instructors.

No two days are the same here — the rhythm of the retreat follows the ocean. Surf times shift with the tides, and our schedule adjusts accordingly to make the most of the best conditions each day.

You can expect a balance of technical BJJ training, surf sessions, and time to rest, explore, and recharge.

A day might look like:

• Early surf session or sunrise yoga

• Group breakfast

• Late morning BJJ seminar — focused technical work and rolling

• Long tropical lunch break and downtime

• Afternoon open mat or a second surf, depending on conditions

• Evening yoga, mobility, or recovery session

• Sunset dinner shared with the group

Each day is designed to flow naturally — prioritising surf when the waves are right, training when the energy is high, and always leaving space to unwind and connect.
